Young Man Dies After Attempting to Carry Four Bags of Cement in Bet

A fun challenge between friends turned into a tragedy when a young man named Gbenga died while trying to carry four bags of cement as part of a dare.
The incident took place last Saturday when Gbenga and his peers wagered their mobile phones on who could carry multiple 50kg bags of cement. With each bag weighing about 50 kilograms, the total load amounted to 200 kilograms—nearly three times the weight of an average adult male.
Fueled by youthful energy and pride, Gbenga volunteered to take on the challenge. In a viral video, he successfully lifted the four bags, but almost immediately collapsed under the overwhelming strain. Witnesses reported that his body gave way, leaving him unable to move or speak clearly, with suspected damage to his spine and nervous system.

His friends desperately tried to revive him, pouring water on his body and attempting to help him to his feet, but their efforts proved futile. By Wednesday, Gbenga had succumbed to his injuries, leaving his family, friends, and community in grief.
The tragic loss has sparked widespread conversations on social media and within the community about the dangers of reckless dares and the growing pressure on young people to perform risky feats for attention or fleeting rewards. Health experts and community leaders are urging the youth to prioritize safety, well-being, and long-term goals over dangerous bets that could cost them their lives.
