Son Pays Emotional Tribute to Sacked Tottenham Boss Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son has paid a heartfelt tribute to Ange Postecoglou following the manager’s shock dismissal, describing the Australian as a “Tottenham Hotspur legend” and crediting him for changing the club’s trajectory.
Postecoglou, who became the first Australian to manage in the Premier League, led Spurs to their first European trophy in 45 years by winning the UEFA Europa League this season. The historic triumph secured a return to the UEFA Champions League and marked a high point in what was otherwise a turbulent domestic campaign.
Despite the European success, Spurs’ dismal 17th-place finish in the Premier League proved decisive, and the club parted ways with Postecoglou amid criticism and internal pressure. A season plagued by injuries and inconsistent form ultimately cost him his job, leaving many within the club and fanbase stunned.
Son, who was handed the captain’s armband by Postecoglou at the start of the season, took to social media to express his admiration and gratitude for the man who, he says, reshaped the identity of Tottenham.
“Gaffer. You’ve changed the trajectory of this club,” Son wrote.
“You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did.
You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it’s had in decades. We will have those memories for life.”

Son continued by acknowledging the personal impact Postecoglou had on him, particularly in trusting him with the captaincy during a challenging season.
“You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. It’s been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close. I am a better player and a better person because of you.”
Closing his message, Son declared Postecoglou’s place in the club’s history:
“Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate.”
While results in the Premier League fell short of expectations, Postecoglou’s attacking philosophy, connection with players, and historic European success have left a lasting imprint on Tottenham. As the club prepares for a new chapter, the legacy of the manager who delivered silverware and inspired belief will not be easily forgotten.
