Ola Girls SHS Hosts Cultural Week to Celebrate Ghanaian Heritage

Ola Girls Senior High School (SHS) at Kenyasi No. 2 in the Ahafo Region has organized a cultural week celebration aimed at promoting the diverse cultures of Ghana and broadening students understanding of the country’s rich heritage.

Ola Girls SHS’s cultural week celebration was designed to teach the students the cultural and traditions of all 16 regions of Ghana.

The event, attended by chiefs, Ghana Education Service (GES) staff, alumni, other schools, and the general public, was held under the theme “The Role of Culture in the Formation of the 21st Century Girl.”

Assistant Headmaster for Administration at Ola Girls SHS, Richard Ernest Amankwah, explained to Adom News that, the celebration was necessary because students are increasingly distancing themselves from Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

The school, therefore, saw the need to educate them about the various cultures across the country.

The celebration featured students showcasing the cultural practices, attire, and traditions of all 16 regions of Ghana.

The goal was to help students, not only from Ola Girls but from other schools as well to appreciate the country’s rich culture and reduce their inclination to adopt foreign cultures from Europe and America.

Dwaatoafohemaa of Kenyasi No. 1, Nana Yaa Kyerew, and the Head of Past Students, Sweetie Godbless Owusu, both praised the school’s management for organizing such an educational event.

This cultural week celebration at Ola Girls SHS is a significant step towards instilling cultural appreciation and pride in the younger generation, ensuring that Ghana’s rich traditions are not lost to globalization.
