NTC Opens Registration for 2024 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 3

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially opened registration for the 2024 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 3. Scheduled to take place from 23rd to 25th September 2024, the examination aims to assess the professional competencies of aspiring teachers, ensuring they meet the required standards for effective teaching in Ghanaian schools.

Purpose of the Examination

Under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (ACT 1023), the NTC is tasked with overseeing the teaching profession in Ghana. The GTLE serves to evaluate candidates’ knowledge, practices, values, and attitudes, aligned with the National Teachers’ Standards. Passing this exam grants teachers a professional license, a necessary credential to practice within the country.

Structure of the Examination

Fresh candidates will be assessed across three main papers:

  1. General Professional Knowledge: This paper tests literacy, numeracy, and essential professional skills.
  2. Grade-Level Specialism Pedagogy: Tailored to the candidate’s area of specialization, this includes levels such as Early Childhood, Primary, Junior High, Senior High, and Technical Vocational Schools.
  3. Subject Knowledge:
  • Candidates trained in Early Childhood or Primary education will take a Multiple Subjects Content Paper.
  • Candidates specializing in Junior High, Senior High, or TVET will write one paper based on their chosen subject.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for GTLE 3, candidates must possess a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Those with foreign degrees are required to submit a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to prove eligibility.

Indexing Process for Fresh Candidates

Before registering for the exam, fresh candidates must go through an indexing process. They can check their indexing status at indexing.ntc.gov.gh and pay an indexing fee of GH₵50.00 through Prudential Bank Ltd or GCB Bank PLC.

Upon successful payment, candidates will receive an indexing number, which must be used to register for the examination.

Registration Process

Candidates must complete their registration before the deadline on 5th September 2024. Registration fees are as follows:

  • Fresh candidates: GH₵450.00 for all three papers.
  • Re-sit candidates:
  • One paper: GH₵150.00
  • Two papers: GH₵210.00
  • Three papers: GH₵385.00

Payments can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Ltd, GCB Bank PLC, or through mobile money platforms. Candidates should ensure all information is accurately submitted, as changes cannot be made after the registration process.

Key Notes for Candidates

  • Only candidates with a Bachelor of Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Education are eligible.
  • There will be no extension of the registration deadline beyond 5th September 2024.
  • Formal dress code is mandatory during the examination period.
