NTC, GES Announce Phase Two of National CPD Day with Focus on Data Protection Training

The National Teaching Council (NTC), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), has officially announced Phase Two of the National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for teachers, with a special focus on Data Protection Training.
The initiative underscores the growing importance of responsible data management in Ghana’s education sector, especially as schools increasingly depend on digital tools for teaching, assessment, communication, and record keeping. In the course of their duties, teachers routinely handle sensitive information, including learners’ personal details, academic records, staff data, and examination materials, making data protection a critical professional responsibility.
Phase Two of the National CPD Day is scheduled for Thursday, 15 January 2026, and will be conducted virtually via Katon Meet, the approved online platform. This virtual approach is aimed at ensuring nationwide participation while eliminating the logistical and financial challenges associated with physical gatherings.
To support effective coordination and monitoring of the programme, 261 District Host Accounts have been created across the country. The training forms part of the mandatory professional development requirements tied to teacher licensing and renewal under the NTC framework.

The data protection training is designed to address practical challenges teachers face in managing information in an increasingly digital environment. These include data breaches, unauthorised access to information, improper sharing of sensitive data, and poor record management practices within schools.
Participants are expected to gain a solid understanding of data protection principles, ethical standards, and best practices for safeguarding both electronic and physical records. The training will also highlight teachers’ legal and professional obligations under existing data protection laws in Ghana.
According to the organisers, the virtual delivery model reflects the commitment of the NTC and GES to inclusive and efficient professional development. It ensures equal access for teachers in both urban and remote areas, while minimising disruptions to teaching and learning activities.
Overall, Phase Two of the National CPD Day represents a strategic effort by the NTC and GES to strengthen professionalism, promote accountability, and equip teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to operate confidently and responsibly within an increasingly digital education system.
