‘Not Forced, It was Consented’ – MP’s Stunning Take on KNUST SHS Incident
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Hon. Theophilus Dominic Vondee, has come under heavy public scrutiny following his comments on the recent scandal at KNUST Senior High School (SHS) involving the Assistant Headmaster for Academics, Mr. Charles A. Aidoo, and a young female student.
Speaking on the matter, the legislator stated: “Sincerely the man was not forcing the young girl. It was more of a consented thing.”
This remark has sparked outrage among parents, teachers, gender advocates, and civil society organizations, who argue that such a stance downplays the gravity of the issue and undermines the protection of minors in Ghana’s educational system.
Critics have reminded the MP that under Ghanaian law, consent is not valid when a sexual relationship involves a minor, regardless of the circumstances. They contend that figures in leadership positions should be setting the tone for child protection and safeguarding, rather than normalizing acts that could amount to exploitation or abuse.

The scandal at KNUST SHS has already raised alarm over the growing concerns of teacher-student misconduct in schools, with many calling for stricter regulations, enhanced supervision, and swifter punitive measures against offenders.
Child rights activists are demanding an immediate retraction and apology from Hon. Vondee, stressing that his statement risks emboldening perpetrators while discouraging victims from speaking out.
As investigations continue into the actions of Mr. Aidoo, the public discourse has once again turned to the responsibilities of educators, lawmakers, and community leaders in ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of Ghanaian students.
