Mrs. Wilhelmina Obuobisa-Atakora Inducted as 9th Headmistress of Aburi Girls SHS

In a vibrant and solemn ceremony, Mrs. Wilhelmina Obuobisa-Atakora has been officially inducted as the ninth headmistress of Aburi Girls’ Presbyterian Senior High School, marking a new chapter in the storied history of the institution.

She takes over the mantle of leadership from the late Mrs. Cynthia Anim, who served with distinction from 2021 until her untimely passing in 2024. The event was attended by dignitaries from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Ghana Education Service (GES), alumni, staff, students, and members of the wider Aburi community.

Mrs. Obuobisa-Atakora is herself a proud product of both Krobo Girls’ and Aburi Girls’ SHS. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Statistics and Mathematics from the University of Education, Winneba.

With a strong background in teaching and academic administration, she has served in various educational institutions including West Africa Senior High School, where she was Assistant Head in charge of Academics.

Prior to her new appointment, she was headmistress at both Nkwatia Presbyterian Senior High School in the Eastern Region and Teshie Presbyterian Senior High School in Greater Accra. Her leadership experience, deep commitment to academic excellence, and passion for holistic education made her the ideal candidate to steer Aburi Girls SHS into its next phase.

A devout Presbyterian, Mrs. Obuobisa-Atakora has actively served in the church as a presbyter, leader of the singing band, and a prominent figure in women’s fellowship groups across different congregations.

Performing the induction, the Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Reverend Ebenezer Acheampong Asiedu, urged her to lead with vision and purpose, noting that her selection came with great responsibility. “You were chosen out of many, and much is expected of you,” he said, while assuring her of the full backing of the Presbyterian Church in her efforts to uplift the school.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Obuobisa-Atakora expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Church and GES for the trust placed in her. She also called on all stakeholders to support her mission. “I commit to building on the firm foundation and enviable records I have come to meet,” she stated. “With unity and purpose, we can raise the banner of Aburi Girls even higher.”

Founded in 1858 by the Basel Mission as a girls’ primary boarding school, Aburi Girls SHS has grown into one of the most prestigious all-girls institutions in Ghana. In 1964, the Scottish Mission, with the support of the then Synod Committee, transformed it into a full secondary school. Today, the school boasts a vibrant student population of 4,081, organized into eight houses.

As Mrs. Obuobisa-Atakora assumes leadership, she carries with her not only a rich legacy but also the hopes of a new generation of Aburi Girls ready to embrace excellence in academics, character, and service.
