The Sagnarigu Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. Alhassan Alidu Jnr, has officially assumed the role of caretaker Northern Regional Director of Education following the transfer of Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah to the Greater Accra Region as the new Regional Director of Education.
At a brief handing-over ceremony on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Hajia Katumi expressed her profound gratitude to the Directors of Education, Regional Education Officers, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support throughout her tenure from May 2023 to February 2025.
She acknowledged their cooperation and dedication, which contributed to the successes achieved during her leadership.
As part of the transition process, Hajia Katumi met separately with Directors of Education, Regional Education Staff, the leadership of CHASS, TEWU, GNAT, and some Civil Society Organizations to deliver her farewell message. During these engagements, she highlighted key achievements, challenges faced, and the way forward for the education sector in the region.

She urged all staff and partners to extend the same level of support to Mr. Alhassan Alidu Jnr to ensure continued progress in the region’s education sector.
In his remarks, Mr. Alhassan commended Hajia Katumi for her outstanding leadership and the smooth transition process. He assured all stakeholders of his commitment to building upon the achievements of his predecessor and advancing education in the region. He further noted that he would not hesitate to seek guidance whenever necessary.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Education Directorate, Directors of Education, education sector unions, and other key stakeholders expressed their appreciation to Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah for her dedicated service and wished her success in her new role in the Greater Accra Region.
The transition marks a significant leadership shift in the Northern Regional Education Directorate, with expectations that the caretaker director will continue to strengthen the education sector in the region.
