Mathematics and Economics Teachers Scandal Sparks Debate Over Morality and Discipline in Schools

Mathematics and economics teachers have once again found themselves at the center of controversy after a leaked video allegedly showing them in an illicit affair surfaced online. The disturbing incident comes barely a month after the viral scandal involving an Assistant Headmaster and a student at KNUST Senior High School.

The development has reignited nationwide discussions about morality, professionalism, and digital responsibility among teachers and students across Ghana’s Senior High Schools (SHS’s)

According to reports, the video, which has been widely shared across social media platforms, shows the two teachers engaging in inappropriate conduct. The circulation of such explicit material has once again drawn public outrage, with many calling for urgent intervention from the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES). The incident follows closely on the heels of the Okadjakrom Senior High School saga and has amplified concerns about the erosion of ethical standards in the education sector.

Education analysts and parents have condemned the recurring scandals, describing them as a threat to the moral fabric of the nation’s schools. They argue that teachers, who are expected to serve as role models, must uphold the highest standards of discipline and integrity.

“These incidents are damaging the image of the teaching profession and sending the wrong message to students,” one education advocate stated. Others have emphasized that the issue extends beyond isolated cases of misconduct, pointing to a deeper moral and disciplinary crisis that requires systemic solutions.

Calls are growing for the government to establish stricter regulations to control the creation and distribution of explicit digital content within the education sector. Stakeholders are urging the GES and the Ministry of Education to introduce clear policies on social media use, digital ethics, and professional behavior for both teachers and students. Such policies, they argue, should include sanctions for misconduct and mandatory digital literacy training aimed at promoting responsible online behavior.

Public sentiment also reflects frustration over the rapid spread of indecent material on social media platforms, which has made it easier for such videos to go viral within hours. Many are demanding that authorities work with the Cyber Security Authority and law enforcement to curb the dissemination of obscene content and hold offenders accountable under Ghana’s cybercrime laws.

As investigations into the latest scandal unfold, there is a collective call for reflection and reform within the education sector. Stakeholders insist that moral guidance, counseling, and professional ethics training must be prioritized in schools to restore trust and uphold the values that define Ghana’s educational system.
