Jan Tomaszewski Calls for Hansi Flick’s Sacking if Barcelona Fail to Win Champions League
Former Polish international goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski has launched a scathing attack on Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, insisting the German tactician should be dismissed if he fails to deliver the UEFA Champions League title.
According to Tomaszewski, Flick is not the right fit for the current Barcelona squad and has failed to get the best out of a team he believes is packed with quality. He argued that rather than elevating the players, the coach has turned them into a weaker version of themselves.
Tomaszewski claimed that several Barcelona players look physically drained, noting that many are operating at just 40 to 50 per cent of their actual potential. He criticised Flick’s tendency to portray confidence after disappointing results, citing the team’s performance in Prague as an example of what he described as misplaced bravery following a poor display.
The former goalkeeper also raised concerns about Barcelona’s growing injury problems. He pointed out that some of the injuries were not the result of heavy tackles but rather players being pushed beyond their physical limits, suggesting fatigue as a major contributing factor.

Turning his attention to Robert Lewandowski, Tomaszewski offered a more tactical critique. He described the veteran striker as a “goal-scoring machine” who must be used intelligently. In his view, Lewandowski should not be an automatic starter but instead deployed as a decisive substitute when Barcelona are chasing a winning goal.
Tomaszewski believes this “joker” role suits Lewandowski perfectly, as the striker is most effective when opponents are already fatigued. He added that as long as Lewandowski remains physically capable whether at Barcelona or another club, he will continue to give everything in this impact role.
The Polish legend concluded by strongly defending Lewandowski’s legacy, labelling him the greatest footballer in Poland’s history. He stressed that Lewandowski’s lack of major success with the national team should not be held against him, noting that international achievements depend on many factors beyond the influence of a single player.
According to Tomaszewski, Lewandowski’s record and trophies at club level speak for themselves and firmly cement his place as an all-time great of Polish football.
