Headmaster Under Threat After Exposing Apor Syndicate

The headmaster of the Abuom D/A Primary School, who is credited with exposing the cheating, is now facing threats against his life in connection with a troubling instance of alleged examination fraud at the Abuom D/A Centre in Sankore Abuom, Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region.

Special officers from Accra, acting on intelligence, visited the Abuom Circuit earlier this week and uncovered serious breaches of exam integrity. During their operation, they caught candidates in possession of both printed and handwritten “apor” materials, particularly for the Integrated Science paper. The officers collected clear evidence pointing to a well-organized cheating scheme at the centre.

However, what began as a crackdown on exam malpractice has now escalated into a matter of personal safety.

Headmaster Targeted for Standing Against Cheating

The Headmaster, known locally for his firm stance against examination malpractices, is reportedly under severe threat from some members of the community. On Tuesday night around 10 p.m., a group of unidentified young men—believed to be involved in or supporting the apor network—attempted to attack him at his home. Fortunately, he was not present at the time of the attempted assault.

Local sources have revealed that the group is allegedly planning to physically assault him after the Wednesday paper. Failing that, they are said to be conspiring to fabricate allegations in a bid to have him transferred from the community.

Alleged Cover-Up Attempts

In an even more troubling development, some community elders are reportedly trying to influence the investigation by persuading the officers to suppress the case. These actions, if true, suggest a deeper network of complicity that threatens not just the integrity of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), but also the safety of educators who stand for honesty and accountability.

A Call for Immediate Action

This situation is both a serious breach of examination ethics and a grave threat to the life of a public servant. We therefore call on the Ghana Education Service (GES), the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the Asunafo South District Directorate of Education, the Ahafo Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and other relevant law enforcement bodies to act swiftly and decisively.

We cannot afford to allow those who stand for integrity to be punished while perpetrators of malpractice walk free. If these threats are not addressed immediately, it could set a dangerous precedent where educators become targets for upholding the rules.

Conclusion

This is not just about leaked exam papers—it’s about protecting truth, justice, and the future of Ghana’s education system. Authorities must ensure that those behind this malpractice are brought to book, and that the headmaster who risked his safety to expose the rot is protected and commended, not silenced or victimised.
