Ghana’s Freda Ayisi Joins Watford FC Women Ahead of New Season
Watford FC Women have bolstered their midfield with the signing of experienced Ghanaian international Freda Ayisi, the club confirmed on July 21, 2025.
The 30-year-old midfielder joins the Golden Girls from Hashtag United, where she impressed during the 2024/25 season with seven goals in 16 appearances before an injury sidelined her in January. Her move is seen as a major boost for Watford as they gear up for the new Women’s National League Southern Premier Division campaign.
Ayisi began her senior career at Arsenal in 2013 and was part of the squad that lifted the Women’s FA Cup in 2014. She also etched her name into Gunners folklore with a stunning UEFA Women’s Champions League goal against FC Kairat.
Her decorated career has seen her feature for some of the top sides in English women’s football, including Birmingham City—where she played in the 2017 FA Cup final at Wembley—Leicester City, London City Lionesses, Lewes, Charlton Athletic, and most recently Hashtag United.

Known for her creativity, composure on the ball, and attacking prowess, Ayisi brings invaluable experience to Damon Lathrope’s side. The Watford head coach expressed his delight at acquiring a player of her calibre, citing her leadership qualities and technical abilities as key additions to the squad.
“Freda is a fantastic player with great pedigree and experience. She will not only strengthen our midfield but also serve as a mentor to some of our younger talents,” Coach Lathrope said.
Ayisi, who made her senior debut for the Ghana national team in 2024, has been widely praised for her resilience and versatility throughout her career. Her arrival adds both depth and dynamism to a Watford team looking to make a strong statement in the upcoming season.
Watford FC Women will open their league campaign with a home fixture against Lewes FC Women on August 17, 2025. Fans of the Golden Girls are eagerly anticipating Ayisi’s debut and the impact she is expected to make at Vicarage Road.
