GES Urges Parents to Accept Placements and Prepare Wards for SHS Reopening

The Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Access at the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, has called on parents whose wards are dissatisfied with their school placements to accept their assigned institutions and prepare them for reopening between October 18 and 20, 2025.

Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Dr. Issahaque emphasized that with over 95 percent of candidates already placed through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), parents must come to terms with the realities of the placement process as the reopening date approaches.

“Prepare your child. If by today, tomorrow, or the next day you realize that the change you want is not coming, you just have to understand that your child’s place is where he or she is. Prepare your prospectus so that on Sunday you can send the child to school to ensure they join their colleagues,” he advised.

He further explained that while some parents continue to push for changes in placement, the limited number of vacancies means it is not possible to satisfy every request. “As we speak, between 95 to 99 percent are placed and they are not satisfied with one condition or the other. As we approach the 15th, they will convince themselves that an opening that is for 76,000 people cannot take 340,000. The reality will dawn on us to pick what is available,” he stated.

Dr. Issahaque also warned parents against paying unscrupulous individuals who claim they can manipulate the system for a fee. “They are so desperate and they are willing to pay—but if anyone has one person that you know has taken money from you, I am here, you can let me know that person. I am available and we’ll talk to the person,” he cautioned.

The GES has assured that all placed students will be able to report to school from October 18 to 20, 2025, as scheduled, and has encouraged parents to focus on preparing their wards adequately to begin their senior high school education smoothly and on time.
