GES Opens Applications for Assistant Headmasters and Headmistresses in SHS, SHTS, and STEM Schools

The Central Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the opening of applications for qualified professional teachers seeking appointment as Assistant Headmasters and Headmistresses in Senior High Schools (SHS), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) schools across the region.

In a statement signed by the Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Juliette Dufie Otami (PhD), the exercise aims to fill vacant leadership positions in various second-cycle institutions within the region.

Qualification Requirements
According to the statement, interested applicants must:

  • Be graduate professional teachers with at least five (5) years of teaching experience in a second-cycle school. A second degree will be an added advantage.
  • Hold the rank of Assistant Director I or above, and must have served in that grade for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • Be able to serve for at least four (4) more years before retirement.
  • Have held any of the following positions for a minimum of two (2) years:
    1. Unit Head at Metro/Municipal/District Education Directorate
    2. Head of Department
    3. Senior Housemaster/Housemistress
    4. Guidance and Counselling Coordinator
  • Have a satisfactory record of conduct and work history with the Ghana Education Service.
  • Be willing to accept posting to any school within the region where a vacancy exists.

Mode of Application
Application forms can be obtained from the Regional Education Office in Cape Coast or from the various Metro, Municipal, and District Education Directorates. Applicants must submit four (4) completed copies of the application form, accompanied by:

  • Confidential and Performance Appraisal Reports from their supervising Head.
  • Certified copies of relevant certificates and promotion letters.
  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).

Deadline for Submission
Completed applications must reach the Regional Education Office in Cape Coast through the appropriate Metro/Municipal/District Education Office on or before 29th August 2025.

The Directorate has emphasized that photocopies of application forms and late submissions will not be accepted. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews.
