GES Investigates Alleged Feeding Challenges at Savelugu SHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has commenced investigations into an alleged feeding situation at Savelugu Senior High School following the circulation of a video on social media.
In an immediate release dated January 16, 2026, the Public Relations Unit of the GES said management has taken note of the video and treats issues relating to student feeding with utmost seriousness. According to the Service, the quality of feeding in second cycle institutions remains a priority, and any form of mismanagement is considered a serious offence as it undermines government’s commitment to improving student welfare.
The GES noted that student feeding across the country has generally seen significant improvement in recent times, largely due to effective collaboration between the National Buffer Stock Company and heads of senior high schools.

Addressing public concerns, the Service assured parents and guardians that the situation reported at Savelugu Senior High School is an isolated incident and does not represent the general feeding conditions in schools nationwide. Management has therefore initiated investigations to establish the facts surrounding the matter and ensure appropriate action is taken.
As part of measures to safeguard the welfare of students, the GES announced that its Monitoring Team will intensify unannounced visits to schools to assess feeding arrangements and ensure compliance with required standards.
The Service also urged stakeholders, particularly school heads, to promptly report any peculiar challenges they face to management to allow for swift intervention.
The statement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service.
