GES Extends School Selection Deadline to June 25, 2025: Private SHSs Now Included

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially extended the deadline for the 2025 School Selection process for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates to Wednesday, 25th June, 2025.
In a circular dated 13th June, 2025, and signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division on behalf of the Acting Director-General, the extension was attributed to the inclusion of private Senior High Schools (SHSs) in this year’s selection exercise.
According to the GES, this decision aims to allow candidates more time to make well-informed choices regarding their second cycle education, especially considering the newly available private school options.
“All existing guidelines and procedures for the school selection process remain unchanged,” the circular stated. It further encouraged students to consult with teachers, parents, and guardians before finalizing their choices to ensure thoughtful and informed decisions.

The GES has attached a supplementary register containing the list of newly added private second cycle schools to aid candidates and school heads in the selection process.
Regional Directors have been tasked to immediately communicate this new deadline to all Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education, who are expected to relay the information to final-year JHS students through their headteachers.
This extension is expected to ease the pressure on students and guardians while also promoting fair access to a wider range of secondary school options across both public and private institutions.
