GES Cautions School Heads Against Unauthorized WASSCE Registration

The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to Heads of Senior High and Technical Schools against the unauthorized registration of candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In an official press release dated January 8, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, GES disclosed that it has observed cases where some school heads and officials are unlawfully registering Form Two students and private candidates for the WASSCE, often in exchange for money.
According to the Service, such practices are in direct violation of established examination regulations and institutional procedures.
GES clarified that Heads of Schools are only authorized to register Form Three students whose academic records and progression from Year One to Year Three are clearly traceable in the school’s official database.

The registration of Form Two students or private candidates by any school authority has been described as strictly prohibited.
The statement further emphasized that any Head or school official involved in unauthorized registrations, including the charging of fees for such acts, is guilty of misconduct and abuse of office.
Management warned that breaches of this directive will attract severe sanctions in line with both GES and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) regulations, without exception.
GES has therefore cautioned all school heads and education officials to adhere strictly to the approved WASSCE registration guidelines to safeguard the integrity of the examination process and protect the credibility of Ghana’s education system.
