Free SHS Coordinator Storms Home of Wa Technical Institute Matron Over Alleged Diversion of Food Supplies

The Free SHS Coordinator for the Upper West Region, Adamu Dassana, has reportedly visited the private residence of the matron of Wa Technical Institute following allegations that she diverted food items meant for students to her home.

In a development that has triggered widespread public interest, the coordinator, together with a group of individuals, was captured removing assorted food supplies from the matron’s residence. These items are believed to be part of the food provisions allocated to the school under the Free SHS policy.

According to sources, the visit formed part of ongoing investigations into concerns raised by some community members and stakeholders regarding possible mismanagement of resources meant for students. The act of transporting the food items from the matron’s home has intensified scrutiny, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the handling of government supplies in educational institutions.

However, the embattled matron has strongly denied any wrongdoing. Speaking to local reporters, she maintained that she did not steal any food items and insists that the situation has been misrepresented. She further indicated her willingness to cooperate fully with investigators to clear her name.

The incident has revived conversations about the need for stricter monitoring mechanisms in the distribution and management of school resources under the Free SHS programme. Many education observers argue that such checks are necessary to prevent shortages, ensure fairness, and protect the welfare of students.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and relevant authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to determine the facts and recommend appropriate actions.

The public awaits an official statement to shed more light on the incident and its implications for school feeding and resource management within the region.
