Damongo Teacher Contemplates Suicide After Losing GHS400,000 in Forex Trading

A professional teacher in Damongo, located in the Savannah Region, is battling severe emotional distress and suicidal thoughts after reportedly losing nearly GHS400,000 in online forex trading.

The teacher, whose name is withheld for privacy reasons, disclosed that his foray into forex trading began about three to four years ago and initially brought him impressive returns. Encouraged by early success, he continued to invest more into the volatile market.

However, what began as a promising venture soon turned into a nightmare. The tides turned, and losses began to mount. In a desperate attempt to recover his investments, he sold off inventory from his once-thriving electrical shop, rented out the shop space, and redirected all proceeds into the trading platform. Unfortunately, these efforts only deepened his financial woes.

The situation worsened when he resorted to selling personal belongings and, eventually, a parcel of family land — a move that has sparked tension and disappointment within his family. His parents, who only recently learned about the land sale, expressed their frustration and disbelief.

Once known in Damongo for his generosity, especially towards needy students, the teacher’s fall from grace has left the community shocked. He now finds himself isolated, burdened by debt, and plagued by guilt.

In a heartfelt message, he apologised to his family, former customers, and students, stating that he sees no reason to continue living after what he describes as a “series of bad decisions” driven by hope and desperation.

Mental health advocates in the region are urging the Ghana Education Service (GES), religious leaders, and community members to rally around the distressed teacher and provide the emotional and psychological support he urgently needs.

The incident has sparked broader concerns about the rising number of professionals turning to high-risk investment platforms without proper financial education or safeguards in place.
