Assemblyman Arrested for Fatal Shooting at Cocoa Buying Shop [video]
In a tragic turn of events, a cocoa buyer and Assemblyman for Kyekyerwere East, Hon. Kwabena Boateng, has been arrested after fatally shooting two individuals at his cocoa-buying shop in Dunkwa Kyekyerwere, Central Region.
According to reports, Hon. Boateng, who had been on high alert after the theft of 35 bags of cocoa from his shop, took drastic measures to protect his property. On the fateful night of the incident, at around 2 a.m., the assemblyman was keeping watch over his shop when he noticed three individuals attempting to break in.
In a bid to prevent the theft, Hon. Boateng opened fire on the suspects as they tried to flee. Two of the individuals, aged 16 and 20, were hit by the gunfire. Tragically, one of them succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the other passed away en route to the hospital. The third suspect managed to escape and is currently at large.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the use of firearms by private citizens and the escalation of violence in response to criminal activity.
Hon. Kwabena Boateng has since been taken into police custody and is assisting authorities with their investigations. The police have yet to determine whether the assemblyman’s actions will result in charges, as they continue to gather information on the incident.
This case has sparked debate on the balance between self-defense and the appropriate use of force, particularly in situations involving minors. The community of Dunkwa Kyekyerwere is now grappling with the aftermath of the tragedy, as they await the outcome of the police investigation.
