The Global Citizen Prize; Cisco Youth Leadership Award was created by Cisco and Global Citizen to honor a young person who is positively affecting the world, show the contribution of young people to the accomplishment of the United Nations Global Goals, and hasten the solution of world problems.
The Global Citizen Prize: Cisco Youth Leadership Award recognizes a person between the ages of 18 and 30 who has made a significant contribution to the fight against severe poverty. The prize includes a US$250,000 cash payment to the charity the recipient supports.

Despite the fact that the winning group receives the award money, candidates must do so individually.
The person who has advanced one or more of the UN’s Global Goals and who can show a measurable impact of their work over the last three to five years will be the recipient of the 2023 Global Citizen Prize: Cisco Youth Leadership Award. The following five equally weighted criteria are used to evaluate applicants holistically based on their application materials and supporting documentation:
• Impact: A demonstrated history of demonstrable progress toward one or more of the Global Goals during the previous three to five years.
• Vision: A compelling vision and specific plans on how to further this work over the course of the next three to five years, including how the prize would enhance initiatives.
• Catalyst: Motivates other young people to make a difference in the accomplishment of one or more of the Global Goals.
• Global Citizenship: Exhibits the ideals and mentality of a global citizen and problem-solver.
• Technical Innovation: Uses technology or internet-based communications to innovate in order to increase effectiveness, reach, and impact.
Application Requirements
There are five parts to the application:
- An “About You” section containing basic personal and organizational information;
- Your pitch on why you should be awarded the prize in a 2- to 3-minute video, including how you are working towards achieving one or more Global Goals;
- Short written answers to three questions about your work;
- An outline of how your work aligns with the judging criteria — impact, vision, catalyst, global citizenship, and technology innovation — in 250 words or less for each criterion;
- Additional information about your organization, including proof of its registration.
To apply, you don’t have to be the company’s founder or CEO. Anyone who has made a difference is eligible for the Cisco Youth Leadership Award; all it takes is demonstrating leadership, commitment, and innovation.
