Abuakwa South Teachers Honoured as Nation Builders at 2025 Akosua Agyeiwaa Memorial Awards

Teachers in the Abuakwa South Municipality have been celebrated as national builders and agents of transformation at the 2025 Akosua Agyeiwaa Memorial Municipal Teachers’ Awards, with the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, leading glowing tributes to their dedication and service.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Agyemang moved beyond the presentation of plaques and certificates to reflect on the enduring role of teachers in Ghana’s social and economic development. He described educators as the unseen force behind every profession, noting that beyond academic instruction, teachers instil discipline, confidence, values, and a strong sense of purpose in learners.
The MP acknowledged that teaching remains one of the most demanding professions, requiring educators to manage diverse classrooms under challenging conditions while maintaining high professional standards. He praised teachers in Abuakwa South for their resilience, commitment, and innovative spirit, assuring them that their sacrifices and hard work have not gone unnoticed.
To underscore his commitment to education in the constituency, Dr. Agyemang outlined a number of initiatives implemented under his leadership. These include academic competitions such as the Kingsley Maths and Science Quiz, Spelling Challenge, Readathon, and Inter-School Debates, as well as the BECE Support Programme, inter-school sports activities, and various teacher capacity-building interventions.
According to him, the programmes are aimed at strengthening teaching and learning while nurturing talent and excellence among pupils and students.
“These are long-term investments in our children and in the future of Abuakwa South,” Dr. Agyemang said, pledging to deepen and expand the initiatives in the years ahead.

The awards scheme, named in memory of his late mother, Madam Akosua Agyeiwaa, also carried deep personal significance for the MP. He described her as a passionate teacher who firmly believed in the power of education to transform lives, explaining that the scheme honours all teachers who continue to nurture children despite numerous challenges.
The Kibi Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Comfort Ofori-Appiah, expressed optimism that the awards would motivate teachers to redouble their efforts toward improving educational outcomes in the municipality. However, she raised concerns about a teacher deficit of over 200, a situation that has compelled some teachers to handle multiple classes.
Mrs. Ofori-Appiah also highlighted difficulties in posting teachers to deprived communities and appealed for the provision of staff bungalows to enhance teacher retention and performance. She congratulated all award recipients and urged them to continue setting high standards in their classrooms.
As honours were conferred, Dr. Agyemang encouraged the awardees to view their recognition not as an endpoint, but as a call to inspire even greater excellence. He reaffirmed his appreciation for teachers in Abuakwa South and their vital role in building the nation, one learner at a time.
