25 Final-Year Students of Agona Swedru SHS Suspended Over Same-Sex Proposal Fight

Twenty-five final-year students of Agona Swedru Senior High School have been indefinitely suspended following their alleged involvement in a violent altercation linked to a same-sex relationship proposal on campus.

According to school authorities, the incident unfolded after one male student reportedly proposed a romantic relationship to another male student. The recipient of the proposal declined and later informed his peers about the encounter. His colleagues allegedly encouraged him to accept the proposal and lure the other student into a setup.

On the day of the arranged meeting, a group of students believed to be associates of the student who received the proposal ambushed and physically assaulted the student who had made the advance. In retaliation, the assaulted student is said to have informed his dormitory mates, resulting in a reprisal attack that escalated into a larger brawl involving multiple students.

Speaking to Onua News, the Headmistress of Agona Swedru SHS, Mrs. Golda Esi Andam, confirmed that the 25 students involved in the incident were all granted a fair hearing before their suspension was enforced.

“These students will write their final exams under the escort of their parents,” she stated, adding that the disciplinary action should serve as a deterrent. “They have now realised that the Ghana Education Service (GES) does not joke with its code of conduct.”

Mrs. Andam stressed that while the students are facing disciplinary sanctions, their right to education remains intact, as arrangements have been made for them to complete their final examinations.

She used the opportunity to caution all students to adhere strictly to the school’s rules and regulations, noting that indiscipline in any form would not be tolerated.

The incident has sparked discussions on student behavior, peer influence, and the enforcement of school disciplinary codes as schools across the country strive to maintain order and uphold moral standards.
