21-Year-Old SHS Student Dies After Sudden Bee Attack on Campus

A tragic incident has struck the Central Region following the death of a 21-year-old final-year student of A.M.E Zion Senior High School, who was fatally attacked by a swarm of bees on campus.

The deceased, identified as Emmanuella Quainoo, had reportedly enrolled in the private institution to undertake remedial classes aimed at improving her science results after a previous WASSCE attempt.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, when Emmanuella was suddenly swarmed by bees while on the school premises. The unexpected attack left her in critical condition, prompting immediate efforts to save her life.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Medical personnel are said to have recommended urgent interventions, including a blood transfusion. However, despite these efforts, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she sadly passed away the following day.

Speaking in an emotional interview with Citi News on Thursday, March 19, Emmanuella’s grandmother, Vida Ayi Mensah, recounted the painful moments leading up to her granddaughter’s death.

“We heard she had been attacked by bees at school, so we rushed there and took her to the hospital. She passed away the next day,” she said.

She further explained that doctors had begun treatment and requested that the family purchase medications, while also indicating the need for a blood transfusion.

“We saw the doctors attending to her. She asked us to buy medications, which we had already done, and they also said she’d need a blood transfusion. While at the pharmacy, I was called that she had died, so I didn’t proceed with the drugs,” she added.

The shocking incident has left family members, school authorities, and the wider community in deep grief, raising concerns about safety measures on school campuses, particularly in dealing with potential environmental hazards such as bee infestations.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the attack.
