20 ADASCO Students Dismissed Over Unauthorized Swimming Incident That Claimed One Life

The authorities of Ada Senior High School (ADASCO), located in Ada, Greater Accra Region have dismissed 20 students following a tragic incident in which one of their colleagues drowned after they sneaked out of campus to swim in a nearby river.

The dismissed students are said to have defied school rules and left campus without permission to engage in recreational swimming activities at a river in the vicinity. The unfortunate outing ended in tragedy when one of the students drowned during the unauthorized excursion.

School authorities, upon learning of the incident, swiftly launched investigations which revealed that the students had willfully disregarded school regulations, putting their lives and the school’s reputation at risk. The administration subsequently took the decision to dismiss the 20 students involved, citing gross misconduct and breach of school discipline.

In a brief statement, school officials expressed sorrow over the loss of the student’s life and extended condolences to the bereaved family. They also emphasized the need for strict adherence to school rules to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

This incident has reignited discussions on discipline and safety protocols in boarding schools, especially regarding the movement of students outside school premises. Many education stakeholders have supported the school’s decision, describing it as a necessary step to instill discipline and prevent future occurrences.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) is expected to be briefed on the matter, and further directives may follow.

The identity of the deceased student is being withheld out of respect for the family as they go through this difficult time. Police have reportedly begun an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
